Choices, Choices, Choices

This day I (the Lord Your God) have set before you the choice of life and death, blessings and curses.  NOW CHOOSE LIFE, so you and your children may live.

So — that you may love the Lord your God, and listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him.

For, I the Lord Your God am your life.

(Deuteronomy 30:19-20)

God Has Equipped Us to Make Choices

Everyday, you and are faced with a number of choices – some of them are inconsequential – vanilla or chocolate ice cream — others help us to become better people – “I will count to 10 before I respond to this anger attack,” “I will pray and ask God for help with this major decision I have to make” or “I will share my wealth with those in need,” etc.

There are choices that can cause a tear in our relationship with God and often hurt others, as well as ourselves. An example is lying to someone and thinking that you are sparing their feelings when they actually need to know what you are withholding or stealing from someone’s self esteem by calling them names – that we both know makes them feel less than.

And one that hits close to home for me is comparing myself with others, which leads to envy and in my case means “God You owe me” – You should have given me this or that – “ouch,” when I put it that way I realized that I was telling God that I knew better than Him and a side result – I was missing everything that He has given me.

What Can We Do?

Take responsibility for our bad choices and ask God to forgive us. Also, ask Him to help us make the right choices!

Where To Now?

Keep in mind, that God always gives us the freedom to make choices because He loves us.

Today, is a great day to thank God for all He has done for us and will do for us. It’s a most excellent day to pray and ask God to help us make better choices moving forward.

Abba Father, You love us so much. You know that we are going to make wrong choices at times – so we want to thank You for making a way for us to be forgiven and giving us an opportunity, with the Holy Spirit’s help, to make better choices. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Jesus says – “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” (John 11:25 NKJV)

  1. I love what you said about telling the truth (even when it’s tricky)! I think an area, for me, is focus. Keep the focus on God, not the numbers. 🙂

    • Excellent – focus does seem to be something we need to work on. For me it’s learning to keep my attention on what other’s are saying because my mind has developed the habit of continually going over the things I need to do and I miss important parts of the conversation.
